[quote:16830e0ed7="kicka_2"]i know u said that if this situation arrises, i should tell u were to go, but im prety sure i couldjust ask you here, and my question would be that how does you/The kender color the comic? is it done with copic markers? Photoshop?[/quote:16830e0ed7]

Colouring the comic happens in Photoshop after the pen-and-paper originals have been scanned in. Thunt chose the colours in the first few panels of the first colour comic, then I filled in the rest. Now, Thunt chooses colours for the first appearance of new characters and things that are going to be around for a while, like Complains' new sword and shield, while I choose colours for the background bushes etc and all the NPC goblins and gear. I fill in most everything after the colours are chosen. Special effects like spell effects, shiny metal and glowing fire are done by Thunt, smoke is mine and all text is his.

[quote:30b6dac243="Ivellios"]thunt are you ever going to do a cameo of charectors from different webcomics?[/quote:30b6dac243]

I don't have any plans to. Although the thought of doing something with another webcomic is a fun idea that I'd like to get into eventually.

[quote:30b6dac243="Runs_with_scissors"]2 things:

1)How much time passed between the goblins leaving and kore arriving at the village?

2)as a blind goblin how did taps know when to stop wiping his butt? [/quote:30b6dac243]

1) The Goblins left the warcamp on the same day that Minmax was rumaging through the treasure chest and complaining about a lack of weaponry, which was the same day that Minmax and Forgath left the warcamp as well. Kore arrived at the warcamp (I assume that's what you mean when you say "village") the following morning.

2) I was an ametuer stand-up comedian for 4 and a half years. The question about blind people and their butts was part of my routine. So was the whole thing about the blind person with half a cane thinking that he's at the edge of a cliff and the question about eating your own leg and weighing the same afterwards. Yes sir, that update was a smattering of my [b:30b6dac243]old [/b:30b6dac243]comedy routine from '92. But to answer your question... I have no idea. But apparently Void does.

[quote:30b6dac243="kickass'o"]Is yoda really a goblin?[/quote:30b6dac243]

Yes. I remember having a few beers with George Lucas and Frank Oz years ago and I suggested to them that they put a goblin into [i:30b6dac243]The Empire Strikes Back[/i:30b6dac243]. Originally, Luke was going to be trained by a transvestite, but luckily I changed their minds. Then they both stole my idea and never called me again.

[quote:30b6dac243="EnderValkin"]Whenever the online store is finished, what will be some of the things for sale? Other than the books and the Not-Walter comic of course.[/quote:30b6dac243]

Not sure yet. I'll keep you posted.

[quote:30b6dac243="Hobbithearted"]Goblin ages?

That is, what's a Thuntonian Goblin's lifespan, eh? When are they considered "adult", or even "adolescent"? Its something that poked at my brain ever since Chief mentioned that he became "Chief" when he was a baby, and he's been ruling for nine years. That make him around nine, or is there a chunk of time in there when he wasn't nessisarily old enough to be considered "ruling"?[/quote:30b6dac243]

The goblin lifespan is something that will be looked at in the comic down the road.

[quote:30b6dac243="TheSouthStar"]This may have been asked previously (my apologies. I'm too lazy to read this whole forum for one question ^_^), but aren't the Goblins technically level 2? Every Goblin starts as a level one warrior. Was this just not an important aspect when you started making the comic? Perhaps the comic was started in 2nd edition when Goblins were just Goblins and not a player race? Or did they just "trade" their class of warrior for a level of whatever?[/quote:30b6dac243]

I've never counted monster levels as actual levels. If a player started a monster character in my D&D game who had a challenge rating of say... 3. He'd still be a level one character, just a very tough one. So no, they apparently gained their first level when they became characters.

[quote:cd79588c21="EnderValkin"]If Herbert is the DM for Minmax and Forgath, is Herbert also the DM for Chief, Complains, Fumbles, and the rest of the goblin group?[/quote:cd79588c21]

I don't want to give out any info yet on this. I know that the readers are completely in the dark about whether there are players in the real world playing the goblin party and whether or not Herbert is DMing them as well as Minmax and Forgath. It's also been asked if Herbert is the only DM of that realm or is the realm a mixture of various D&D games.

My answer is simply... RAFO.

[quote:cd79588c21="TinSoldier"]Can you give us a daily or weekly update on the T-Shirts/Not-Walter minicomic? Or at least post a daily/weekly update in your blog? I know that you are working hard on it, but it has been awhile...[/quote:cd79588c21]

Too true. It seemed as though no matter how sure I was that things would be done by a certain date, everything was always delayed. I had to redo a large part of the mini-comic and then there was a delay with the T-shirt company because they'd lost the artwork. Sheesh.

But to answer your question, everything was mailed out on Saturday. I imagine the holiday weekend will slow things down, but at least it's all on route. This makes me happy, because I wanted the paper mini-comic to get to the T-shirt holders before it went up for sale online.

Again, I can't apologize for this enough. I will take every precaution to make sure that this sort of delay never happens again.

[quote:2721ca0c63="TinSoldier"]That's interesting. I was reading your previous forum posts recently, and it seemed like the "regular" PCs [i:2721ca0c63]did have[/i:2721ca0c63] players. Of course, I won't necessarily accept that as canon .[/quote:2721ca0c63]

Oh sure, Minmax and Forgath have players and a DM. No question about that. I was refering to the goblins and the rest of the realm.

[quote:5709bbbc17="Believes-Anything"]Maybe this was already asked somewhere else but, why is it that wckinghen Young-and-Beautiful recieved the vision of the adventurers attacking she only predicted 3 adventures attacking. Seth Bainwraith, Forgath, and Minmax? I suppose technically she was correct, those three did attack, she didn't say only those three. Why were Drowbabe and Drasst Dontsue left out? Were they added later?[/quote:5709bbbc17]

The reason for this is covered in the [i:5709bbbc17]Book One Package[/i:5709bbbc17] coming out very soon at drivethrurpg.com .

[quote:7320759242="Ivellios"]1)what is the meaning of life?
2)do you have one other then 42?
3)what penaltys does kore armor make him suffer to hit and what armor class does it give him?[/quote:7320759242]

Kish cover 1 and 2 pretty well. I'll just go for #3.

3) I don't want to give out actual numbers at this point in time. One day I will release character sheets for the characters in the comic. But right now, that would give away too much info to the readers. But I will say that Kore does definately suffer [i:7320759242]to hit [/i:7320759242]penalties due to his armour, and his armour class is rockin.

[quote:7320759242="kicka_2"]where did you come up with/get this style of drawing? or what is the story behind it?[/quote:7320759242]

Since the comic started, I've been trying to find a good balance between detailed artwork and being able to draw quickly. You may notice that I experiment from time to time with things like detailed leaves in the bushes or how much texture goes into the trees or Forgath's beard, etc. As time passes and I become more comfortable with how I want things to look, the comic becomes more and more consistant.

As for the style, I like drawing in a sort of cartoony fashion, but I still want it to be detailed enough that when the comic gets dramatic or dark, it can be taken seriously. I'm heavily influenced by Dave Trampier who did Wormy... http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/haroog/archive/Archive.htm and Wendy Pini who did Elfquest.

[quote:7320759242="gutterkrawl"]How long have you been drawing? Childhood love or new found hobby? Where do you find the time?[/quote:7320759242]

I've been drawing all my life. However, I hate art class. In highschool, the teacher placed an apple on a table and had us all draw it. I hate still life and would much rather draw something that doesn't exist. So I drew the apple as though it was made from shards of rusty metal. I was very proud of my drawing. The teacher failed me and said that it wasn't what she asked me to do. She may have been right, but my 16 year old, emotional brain got mad and I stopped trying in that class after that.

As for the time to draw, well... sleep is over rated. I haven't hung out with friends or played video games or sat infront of the TV for many months now. The only people that I'll stop drawing and just hang out with are TheKender and my two sons. But I sort of look at this as college years before a career. Very little sleep, lots of caffeine and lots of work while hoping that some form of money making career can come of all this.

I will release the character sheets at some point, but I don't know what form I'll be doing it in. Maybe some kind of online book that can be purchased for a small price or something. But I'll never again officially announce the release of something until it's basically finished. Since everything takes me longer to complete then expected.

I've gotten an email from Aaron Williams (Nodwick creator) and Phil Pholio just recently told me that he's a regular Goblins reader. This doesn't answer any questions or anything, but I just wanted to say this because Phil is a childhood idol of mine.

And thanks for the compliment!

[quote:66adaec754="Ivellios"]what would have happend though if he lost his other eye before dieing would he still be called 1 eye or would he be called no eyes?[/quote:66adaec754]

[quote:66adaec754="EnderValkin"]3 questions

1)How do Thac0's swords stay together so he can use them as a cane?
2)The archer that fails his Sense Motive check, does he live or die?
http://thunt.comicgen.com/d/20051014.html
3)When Thac0, Asks Nonsense, and Blind Goblin are first introduced, what game is Thac0 and Asks Nonsense playing?

The first question is the one I really want answered. It has been bothering me for a while now. The other two really don't care, just kinda curious.[/quote:66adaec754]

1) They latch together by some unseen mechanism on the blades. I don't think anyone can tell, but the whole cane is in the shape of a dragon. There are two, little, curvy parts to represent the dragon's feet, and there is a single wing on it's back. The second handle (the part that touches the ground in cane form) is the dragon's tail. I haven't actually drawn any latching thingies for two reasons... #1, There aren't really any close ups of the cane swords yet, and #2, Swords that latch together don't really need a lot of explaining. You show that they're stuck together and people can usually assume. I'm suprised that no one has asked me how SVK keeps his moustache on his face yet.

2) While I won't tell you directly, I will say that it's safe to [i:66adaec754]assume[/i:66adaec754] that all the NPC goblins from the warcamp are dead.

3) I wanted to show the goblins doing something to pass the time (makes them seem that much more real), and I wanted it to be a game that doesn't exist in RL. I did create some rules for the[i:66adaec754] Bone Game[/i:66adaec754] as I was calling it, but it's not a finished, playable game. It's kind of like the [i:66adaec754]I Ching[/i:66adaec754] combined with [i:66adaec754]pick up sticks[/i:66adaec754].

[quote:66adaec754="Anonymous"]1) Does "Updates Every Saturday" not sound a little like a promise to the readership of your comic?

2) Should someone who hopes to make their comic their job not keep the promises they make to their readership?

Hm.. yeah I guess that would be all of my questions.[/quote:66adaec754]

1) No, it's not a promise. "I promise you that I'll have the update done on time" is a promise. "Updates on Saturdays" is a schedule. But be that as it may, I [b:66adaec754]am[/b:66adaec754] telling you on the front page that it will be updated on Saturday and it usually isn't. I appreciate all the readers who are understanding about this and to the ones who aren't, I ask that they join the ranks of the understanding. I'm not late because I was out all night with my friends or because I was playing video games. I'm not late because I kept putting off the 'comic work' like a kid puts off doing his homework. I started the update as soon as I finished the previous one and have been working harder on Goblins than I ever have at any other project or job. So it would seem that the problem is not how much effort I'm putting in, but with the schedule itself.

As many people have suggested, I could change the update day to later in the week. But although that would give me an immediate burst of extra time (an extra day or three), down that road I'd still be looking at an update that is simply 8 or more days of work when coupled with my day job and I'd still only have 7 days to do it in. Eventually, I'd be in the same pickle that I'm in now and I'd have to change the update day to be even later. Boys and girls, I present to you, the horrors of inflation.

2) I agree that all these late updates don't exactly make me look like the most dependable guy in the world. But it's my day job that is the problem. If Goblins were to become my full time job, I'd have no troubles updating on time. Awhile back, I took a week off of work and I did TWO updates as well as moving to a new apartment! Granted, both those updates were late, but there were two of 'em dammit.

Oh, and as for updating on Tuesday, the latest I've ever updated was Monday. It's the time zones that make it Tuesday for you. Oh yeah, I've been working on the mini-comic as well as putting together the Book One Package. This sucks up a lot of time too. And let me take a moment to clear this up...

[quote:66adaec754="Goldentree"]Unless of course you are using the lateness of your comic updates to bring people to your pages over and over, thus causing the page impressions to skyrocket for advertising purposes. But then again, there are better ways to do that too. [/color:66adaec754][/quote:66adaec754]

I don't make any money off of advertising. Comicgen provides me with free service in exchange for the ads. The number of hits makes no financial difference to me.

And finally, I'd like to point out that although I'm usually late, I have yet to ever, miss a single update. I even updated during Christmas and New Years when everyone else was putting up those "Happy Holidays" fillers. I still believe that one day, these late updates will be a thing of the past. Hell, if every single reader I have (currently between 15,000 and 30,000 of 'em) were to donate one dollar each, I'd quit my day job and make late updates a very rare thing indeed.

And THAT, my good reader, is a promise.

If it's eight or more days of work, shouldn't the comic be consistently growing later, instead of always appearing on Mondays? Monday one week, then Tuesday (at the earliest) the next, then Wednesday, and so on.[/quote:118640c715]

The comic isn't always 8 days of work. Sometimes it's 7 or less.

What's going on in the comic and who it's starring makes a big difference as far as how much time it takes me to draw a page.

I'll answer the other questions soon.

1) RAFO

2) This one I will cover. It's actually bolted to his face just like that Klingon in Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country. If you look closely in most of the pics of Chief, you can see three, little screw-type thingys on the eye patch. I often do things in an attempt to seperate the goblins from the elves and fairy folk of other stories. I want readers to remember that these are goblins. Even though we like them, they're sometimes gruesome and nasty. Examples of this are the bolted eye patch, the food they eat (like grass maggots) and lots and lots of skulls used as decorations and weaponry (there are even a couple hands in the Fortune Teller's hut).

An explanation is definately coming. Before I ever drew my first sketch of Forgath, I'd always planned on one day explaining the whole helmet thing.

And yes, the characters in the Book II logo will show up.
