[quote:65ed7029d4="Chaszmyr"]This is probably a dumb question... sorry if it is.

Where can I buy books 1 or 2? And do they come in Dead Tree Format?[/quote:65ed7029d4]

They aren't in Paper format yet. But they will be one day.

[quote:65ed7029d4="Slayer"]I was curious as to what type of paper, pecils and ink you use. Also what type of scanner do you have?[/quote:65ed7029d4]

Paper - 14x17 (yes, the comics are that big when I draw them) acid free drawing paper by Canson
Pencil - 0.3 HB mechanical by Staedtler
Pens - 005, 01, 03 and 05 Pigma Micron pens. (I'm sure a lot of artists would say I use more pens than I need, but I like having different sizes at hand)
Scanner - Lexmark All-In-One (which was partly paid for by readers when my old one broke down. Thank you!!)

[quote:65ed7029d4="summ0"]I'd like to ask, with what program do you paint your comics? And do you still have all of your uncolored black and white comics?[/quote:65ed7029d4]

They're painted with Photoshop. And I keep all the originals filed away.

RTPAFO (Read This Post And Find Out).

He'll be back. Though he may never be seen the same way again after the release of [i:65ed7029d4]"Not-Walter" Screams Like A Little Girl[/i:65ed7029d4].

Shamlessly plugging material is fun!

Hmmm, I guess I should have mentioned somewhere in the mini-comic that it takes place shortly after the update "Roleplaying XP". Oops.

[quote:7fd2858592="Osito"]What did the goblin in the first comic that called "Dibs on the gauntlets", want them for? I don't remember seeing any goblins wear hand protection, (including fully armored SVK...) and since Humans and Goblins have different number of fingers he wouldn't be able to use them...[/quote:7fd2858592]

Goblins are kind of pack rats. They don't use coins but they still collect them. Why? Cause they're shiny and unlike anything they can make! The gauntlets were huge and had too many fingers. There was no way anyone in the clan could have worn them, but they were cool!

[quote:7fd2858592="Slayer"]When the hand drawn comics are scanned do you and TheKender have trouble colouring when the scanner picks up inconsistancies in the paper?

I've heard Photoshop is good and maybe the acid free paper makes this a non issue for you two, but I've scanned my drawings and coloured with microsoft paint. It looks horrible. I've been using coloured pecils since

I guess anything you two are willing to tell me about the process would be greatly appreciated. I have been inspired by your comic and am trying to start my own.[/quote:7fd2858592]

After I scan in the comics, I use Photoshop to darken the lines and make them look a bit crisper, then I magnify the hell out of the page and go through it bit by bit and erase any little dust particles or spots from the paper itself. I also fix up any mistakes I may have made while I was inking.

If you want help on how to colour using Photoshop, there are a ton of tutorials on the subject online. Just start Googling and they're easy to find.

When TheKender and I first started colouring the comic, we had no idea what we were doing. But over time, we're gaining a better understanding of it all. The whole colouring process has become a 50/50 job for the two of us since I do the spell effects, lighting effects and reflective shines on metal objects, and the comic has been including more of these effects.

Let us all know when your comic is ready!

Also does...i mean did( ) hawl ever go into brassmoon city or merely scrounge around it[/quote:7fd2858592]

Y'know, I've been toying with the idea of putting up a map since I have my own map sketched out for writting purposes. I should do that fairly soon. Until then though, I'm going to hang on to that question rather than answer it, sorry.

I've written a very long pre story about Hawl which explains the whole process of how he gets his junk from Brassmoon City. I just don't know when I'll ever have time to draw it. As I mentioned months ago, the story is called [i:7fd2858592]Hawl and The Greyblood Amulet [/i:7fd2858592]and it also covers what happened when Targoth fell into Hawl's care about a year ago.

I'm almost certain that this has nothing to do with the Greyblood orcs who almost overran Brassmoon City... let's see, when was that, oh yeah... about a year ago.

I'm sure there are a lot of blind people out there who could answer this. I have no doubt that there are blind people who do gardening, go for walks in the park and many other tasks similar to finding blackroot. Taps was familiar with the area, so it made sense to me that he could do this. Although, since he is blind, it was still news worthy, which is why he had that "Hey, look what I did!" attitude about the whole thing.

[quote:f11089ef15="Graywolf"]Thunt, would you like me to delete anything that isn't a question to you, in this thread?

Reminder to all: This is the official "Ask Thunt thread" It is getting quite diluted with off-topic discussion. For those of us actually interested in questions and responses it gets a little noisy.[/quote:f11089ef15]

Sure. I'm not very good at telling people what they can and can't say in this forum. Especially since it's about my own comic. I'd feel like a bit of an ass, pointing a finger at people and saying "You talk about [b:f11089ef15]my[/b:f11089ef15] comic in the way that [b:f11089ef15]I[/b:f11089ef15] say or I'll lock this thread!" Seems a bit megalomaniacal to me.

[quote:f11089ef15="Likes-to-scrath-himself"]i was just thinking about the drow and i realised they are DROW they have level adjustment +2, were they ECL 3 when they were with minmax and forgath and also what classes were brainwrath and dont'sue? Rangers?[/quote:f11089ef15]

The only way I ever let players play drow in my D&D game was if they were very powered down, losing all or most of the cool abilities drow get. So this was the way that the three drow were in the comic. They had no cool drow abilities and therefore were simple, 1st level characters.

And the two drow guys were both fighters. Drow Babe was a sorcerer. Oh yeah, and Drasst was all drow. A lot of people thought he might have been a halfing or something, but that's only because I may have over did it when I made him as chubby as I did.
[quote:f11089ef15="tomaO2 on the "April 15th" update"][b:f11089ef15]I can't believe this has not been asked yet.

HOW?

How do they suddenly have these powers? How can they just decide to have the powers of first level PCs just like that?

[/b:f11089ef15][/color:f11089ef15][/quote:f11089ef15]

I once had a long debate with a player who decided that his mid level character would pick up psionics as his next level because the other psion in the party seemed to be having so much fun. I mentioned that the psionics book said that only a rare few ever develop the abilities to become psions. It's not something that you can just decide to be.

"But you'd have no problem if I wanted to take wizard, even though my character history doesn't mention anything about the years of studying it would have taken him to get that 1st level." He cleverly retorted.

After a long talk, I decided that it is simply not fair to state that some classes can not be taken at mid levels or they need extra long training while other classes can be obtained with a minimum of training. It created a game imbalance.

What if someone was creating a 1st level character and they wanted the character background to say how he was visited by the ghost of his father who used to be a great wizard and this ghost magically placed in him the knowledge to be a 1st level wizard so that he may go avenge his death? This would be an imaginative background and I wouldn't want to say no to it simply because it didn't contain many years of hard studying. So in my game, you can take pretty much any class you like if you have the XP, but the more reason there is for that class to exist and the more plausible it is, the more bonus XP I'm going to award to that player. And I always gave XP for good character backgrounds.

So to answer your question, the goblins could take classes because they had a desire to do so. Is this realistic? Hell no. Is this what happens in D&D? Yup. They had the XP required to take 1st level (zero XP) and they had the knowledge that they could do this. They just didn't get bonus XP for their backgrounds.

You might ask "at what moment does life begin?". Is it when you are aware of yourself and your existance? Does it begin with the sudden realisation that life begins with that sudden realisation that life begins? If this is the case, then the NPCs who don't know about the classes in the PHB can't become PCs because they aren't aware of those rules.

[quote:f11089ef15="kicka_2"]Is Fumbles allowed to use SVK's Abiliyies? Beacuse Fumbles declared senor vorpal kickass'o a player character, not fumbles, would this still work?[/quote:f11089ef15]

Fumbles is the only goblin in the GAP (Goblin Adventuring Party, it's what TheKender and I have been calling them on this end) who treats everything that's happening like a game. He loves the whole character creation process and dove into it head first. SVK is a persona that he's given himself, but it's not a seperate character. Just like Spiderman and Peter Parker are not seperate people.

Fumbles cutting that little girl was his wake up call. That was the first time we'd ever seen him forced to take something seriously and face consequences for his actions.

[quote:f11089ef15="Ivellios"]i asked this in another topic a while ago but would it be possible for fumbles to have his own charater class while svk had the 1/11 even though its now obeslete please answer[/quote:f11089ef15]

Nope. They're the same goblin. It's not possible for Fumbles to die while SVK keeps adventuring. He calls himself SVK because he doesn't like fumbling and endangering his friends, etc.

[quote:f11089ef15="Segoi"]Does Fumbles suffer this name due to some horrible childhood accident or is it simply the shape of his feet? Perhaps he should practice with a banana![/quote:f11089ef15]

Every gamer has had a day when they just seem to roll a ridiculus amount of fumbles. And some players seem to get more than their share of fumbles. Fumbles' life is that way. He's just unlucky.

[quote:f11089ef15="Likes-to-scrath-himself"]I was just wondering how old are the goblins?

The goblins age and life spans will be covered in the storyline. Until then RAFO.

They're inked to the thickness that you see them.

I draw the pictures pretty big before scanning them in and shrinking them down a bit. You can find tutorials online on how to handle line modulation.

And yes, your chicken rocks.

[quote:f11089ef15="Ivellios"]i know this shouldn't go in this thread but it's the closest one I could think of putting it in

TheKender why don't you make very many comments i've noticed that even when questions are addressed to you often thunt reply's to them instead[/quote:f11089ef15]

This is a great thread to ask TheKender questions. But I actually don't answer her questions for her, that would be kind of controlling and just a tad creepy.

Now, in answer to this question, she doesn't make very many comments because she's busy.

Seriously, I try to get her more involved with this and other forums, but she's very busy and just doesn't seem to be a big "forum" person. I showed her this very question and said "See? They want to hear from you!". I think she'll pop in soon enough and give her own, proper reply to this question. I hope.

Demand her appearance and she'll show up more often.

[quote:f11089ef15="Bluephoenix"]First of all, I absolutely love the comic, much props to you!
Now, questions:
How old are you?
What is your favorite color?
and are the characters based off of ones in former campaigns of yours, or are they all-new?
Have you always been a DM or did you play as a character first...or is it only my DM that does that?
That's all! I know you don't want many more questions than that

Also...Am I like the youngest one here? Everyone is talking about wives, and being kids, and the 70s, it's makes me feel like a friggin baby...

Again, the comic is awesome! Keep up the good work![/quote:f11089ef15]

Thanks!

I'm 32. An old man who can remember the days before the internet and cell phones.

My favorite colour is blue. No yel... AAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Some characters are very loosely based off of characters from my games. Seth Bainwraith was a drow in my game, but he wasn't as mean as the Seth in the comic. Forgath is based partly off of Thormar, a dwarf from my game (whose player sometime posts here). Yodette is the name of my Mother's character when I was a kid, but the Yodette in the comic is [b:f11089ef15]nothing[/b:f11089ef15] like the original.

I've always been a DM. Of course, I've played before, but never for very long. DMing is what I do and have done for the past 24 years.

[quote:f11089ef15="samwise"]dont worry, you will just grow up to be those people that hang out on forums and talk about the 20's.

Question:
At what age did you start drawing? I checked out the "non-goblin art" and love the chess board one. Also, have you always felt an affinity with goblins or did the idea just occur to you one day how cool a comic like this would be? Thanks in advance!

Awesome comic by the way! [/quote:f11089ef15]

Thanks again!

My Father was an artist, so I was drawing since before my first memory.

As a DM, I've grown attached to a lot of the D&D monsters. Goblins are one of those races that I love.

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]why weren't the goblins party searching for any survivers at the warcamp?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

As is stated in the comic, the rule is for all surviving members of a trashed warcamp to head for the village. This is to stop goblins from returning to the camp and risk getting killed by adventurers who may still be around. They didn't head back to search for survivors because that's what they're told [i:2d2bf787df]not[/i:2d2bf787df] to do.

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]why did taps and asks nonsense ave been so content and calm looking until kore came? they didn't see the dead goblins bodies?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

They knew that the battle had happened of course. They were trying to make the best of a bad situation by being cheery and collecting snacks for the trip back to the village. They're old and have seen all of this before. Don't forget that this is a way of life for these goblins.

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]how come dies horribly isn't scared to death of being without his goblin mates but gets scared of his own hand?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]why the hell does forgath hangs around minmax anyway?? they don't seem to like each other very much.[/quote:2d2bf787df]

As much as they tease each other, there's always that undertone of friendship. Forgath with leap into danger to save Minmax's butt and Minmax will sit in a lake and apologize for being a jerkhead. This is just the way they talk and hang out.

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]why does kore bother himself on a goblin village when he can go to brassmoon city and play havoc upon them? what need of his going to a village? he won't score a lot of exp points on a defendless village. [/quote:2d2bf787df]

Kore isn't too interested in XP. He's on a "mission" of some sort.

[quote:2d2bf787df="il-guest"]and what's with complains?? from the inquiring and leading member he was at first he turned to be a silent follower with not much of a content to his lines.[/quote:2d2bf787df]

Goblins is a comic about a lot of different characters. This means that everyone will have their little moments in the sun. Complains vs Minmax was obviously a big Complains moment. Right now there's a lot of focus on different characters. Complains will definately have more moments though, as will all of the G.A.P.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Zathyr"]the originals are drawn much larger - were those text bubbles in the background in update a couple weeks ago with the elven caravan intended to be readable? The ones CloisteredCleric is using as an avatar.[/quote:2d2bf787df]

Heh, that tiny text was not meant to be readable. Although the pictures are drawn at a larger size, the text is added [i:2d2bf787df]after[/i:2d2bf787df] the pictures are shrunk down. I wanted to show that the elves were talking, but that the goblins couldn't hear what they're saying. There is no way for anyone to alter that text to read it either, it's all just blurry gibberish at this point and enlarging it just makes bigger, blurry gibberish. So what's it say? Well, knowing that no one would be able to read it, I had the elves talking about a huge spoiler coming up. It was done purely for my own enjoyment.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Zathyr"]And speaking of avatars ... will we ever see the stick again? I enjoyed its pointyness. [/quote:2d2bf787df]

RAFO.

[quote:2d2bf787df="darkgobbo"]Are the wildlife creature that you use in your comic based off anything? do you look at real animals and just make them more fantasy? have you ever incoperated wildlife like this into your DnD games?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

Some of the creatures in the comic are from past D&D games and some are creations purely for the comic. I have this habit of creating detailed info about these things even though I don't plan on going into detail about many of them. The dandelion-flies are a cross between dragon-flies and dandelions. They breath by flying low over the water and dipping their bulbus tail (which actually contains tiny gills) into the water. While flying around, they are actually holding their breath, which they can do for about ten minutes before they need to dip into the water again.

The rockjaw actually has two ways of catching prey. As we saw, it can grab with it's tongue, but it can also squirt a powerful jet of water at passing dandelion-flies and other insects or birds. The jet of water stuns the creature, causing it to land near the rockjaw. The rockjaw's tongue then reaches over to the creature laying wet on the nearby rocks and nabs it. The rockjaw's roots actually reach deep underground where it can drink all it wants and obtain water as ammo.

I could go on about all the beaties like this, but it'd take too long. But know that every, single creature that appears in the comic like this has way too many notes about it and is fully detailed. Who can say why I do this.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Bobacahog"]So is the order of characters travelin?

Elves, Fumbles, Chief/Names/Big Ears/ThAC0, MinMax/Forgath, Kore, Dies, Yodette and crew? or is Kore bringing up the rear?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

RAFO. But I can say that it's all gonna come to a huge climax that'll change a lot.

[quote:2d2bf787df="bluephoenix"]I've got one!

Well, that wasn't to fool any of you fine folks. But I didn't want The Goblinslayer's first appearance to be in a sequence where he wasn't actually in the comic yet. You won't see him fully until you actually [i:2d2bf787df]see[/i:2d2bf787df] him.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Likes-to-scrath-himself"]would you be willing to design a mission for a level 7 party? I Dm for them regukarly and kind of went brain dead on the next mission. I'd gladly pay for it.[/quote:2d2bf787df]

While I'd love to sit and write a whole bunch of modules (or even one) I struggle to keep up with just the regular updates (as eveyone knows by my sinful lateness), so I'm afraid I don't have the time right now. I miss D&D though. This is the longest I think I've ever gone without DMing since I was a little kid.

When I get out to conventions again, I'll most likely be DMing a game or two then. This October I'll be at Vcon, which is Vancouver's sci-fi convention. I'm going to be doing at least one panel there as well. If anyone has the means, come game/drink beer/ingest far too much caffeine with me and TheKender. I'll probably post about Vcon in it's own thread one of these days.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Likes-to-scrath-himself"]What's Forgath's alignment/domains?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

I'll be placing the character sheets in some future suppliment one day. Until then I won't be giving out such info. However, there's a big clue about Forgath's alignment in the comic already.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Bluephoenix"]Which characters are the hardest/easiest to draw?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

Kore is a giant pain in the butt to draw! Chains take forever! Forgath, Baka and "Not-Walter" takes awhile too. The goblins and Minmax take a bit less time and Klik is by far, the fastest thing to draw!

Oh wait, you asked about the hardest/easiest. Hmmm, things are becoming a lot easier in the past months, but at the beginning, the goblin heads were very difficult to draw. The ears and shape of these very alien looking guys were a bit of a struggle. but now that I've drawn, like, a scwillion of them, it's become second nature to me.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Messenger"]From http://thunt.comicgen.com/d/20060217.html, was that Fumbles who ate Complains' pewter incarnations of various monsters and adventurers? Or was the goblin just wall-eyed from the discomfort?[/quote:2d2bf787df]

That was Fumbles. Pre 'stache.

[quote:2d2bf787df="Messenger"]And how should we refer to Complains-of-Names? Or, what reference would you prefer, Thunt? Complains or Names? :[/quote:2d2bf787df]

You can call him whatever you like. But as Hobbithearted pointed out, he's only called [i:2d2bf787df]Names[/i:2d2bf787df] by Minmax.

And can I ask that people only post questions to me in this thread? I created it so I don't have to sift through posts in a time consuming attempt to make sure I can answer everyone's questions. But it's getting so that I actually have to sift through this thread now too.

[quote:bdda2f826f="Kameru"]Ohh, I have a question.

In The Goblin’s Three Plans, first panel, who are the goblins first left and middleish right?

I know that’s Fumbles on the far right, but what about the other two?

Anyone we know?[/quote:bdda2f826f]

Those are just background goblins. No one specific. I wanted to make sure that I showed a lot of background goblins so that when tons of goblins were biting it in the warcamp battle, people wouldn't be saying "Hey, where are all of these goblins coming from?"

[quote:bdda2f826f="Ivellios"] are there any super detailed pictures of kore seeing as all the black and white first drawings of the creatures are alot more detailed then the later colour ones and even the other b&w ones

(eg in the b&w ones you can see the nails/staples in :Chief: cheifs :Chief: eye patch and :notwalter: not-walter :notwalter: looks realy kick ass in his first apearance)[/quote:bdda2f826f]

In the beginning I was trying to find a comfortable combination of cartoony art and more realistic art. Of course, realistic artwork looks cooler, but it takes a very long time and that shortens updates. If you look at [i:bdda2f826f]The Goblins' Three Plans[/i:bdda2f826f], you'll notice that that update is [b:bdda2f826f]very[/b:bdda2f826f] cartoony. I drew those five pages really quickly, but that update has none of the punch that my recent backdrops and terrain have been able to give. So there're disadvantages for going too realistic or too cartoony. I think that goblins is beginning to settle into a nice area of art style with a little of column A and a little of column B.

And to answer your question about Kore pics, there is one detailed sketch of him without armour. That's the only [b:bdda2f826f]really[/b:bdda2f826f] detailed one. And no I won't show it. Even TheKender hasn't seen it.

[quote:bdda2f826f="Ivellios"]ok another question how is forgaths beer gut decreasing at such a fast rate and why does his armor change to acomidate that and hell his man boobs have shrunk even further so how does his armor change and how does he lose weight so fast (I want to know so I can do the opposite im close to 20Kg [44Lb] under weight and can not put weight on no mater how hard i try)[/quote:bdda2f826f]

Forgath, like all of the characters in the comic, has been evolving over time. It's just something that happens in comics. Look at the original Garfield vs the modern Garfield. Or the Nodwick characters.

And to gain weight, either wait until you get older and your metabilizm slows down (trust me, it'll happen) or be drawn by a comic artist.

[quote:bdda2f826f="tomaO2"][b:bdda2f826f]-How come MinMax has that scar down it when all other damage is completely healed? [/b:bdda2f826f]
Obviously, some damage you can't heal like having a limb cut off but this was just a cut, it didn't even touch MinMax's eye as far as I can see, though it was close, and even if it did touch MinMax's eye the scar below it should have been healed if the damage on the rest if their bodies was completely healed so what's up with that?[/quote:bdda2f826f]

Geez, Toma....

All questions regarding the cut on Minmax's face are RAFO.

[quote:bdda2f826f="tomaO2"][b:bdda2f826f]-What exactly are specialized elite guardians learning from torturing the monsters that they could not have learned from traditional means? [/b:bdda2f826f]
This one kind of irks me. I mean, I understand testing unique monster abilities like, say, regeneration and some monsters have various immunities to different items but surely the humans already have an understanding of those basics. What could they possibly know now that could have helped them when the monsters attacked Brassmoon City in the first place?

Plus, they are torturing Kobloids? Orcs? GOBLINS? They don't exactly have anything special about them that months of torture could figure out. Get a sword, stick the pointy end in the chest. It's not rocket science, even MinMax can do it.

Now, learning about mental characteristics, how they group, how likely they are to run away in X situation, how easy they are to sneek up on... that could be useful but you can't learn those things in a prison. You need to go in the wilderness and fight them one on one. Besides, Brassmoon City MUST have mages too that can cast spells to gather the character sheets of monsters that they need to defeat. What more do you need to know then that?

I can't think of any really useful examples that torturing monsters can give in helping defeat them. Sure, it's nice to know that it takes that Kobloid 47 minutes to die from blood loss once their wrists are slit or that it can survive 20 minutes after you remove their kidney but there are faster, more efficient ways to achive the same end. I honestly doubt that they have learned a single thing that would make Kore, for instance, a better killer. He has no interest in these sorts of tactics and I can't see him ever needing them. If it does though, I would love to be enlightened.[/quote:bdda2f826f]

I can answer your question with one tragic word. Nazis.

Before and during World War II, Nazi scientists/doctors performed torturous experiments on other races and people who were mentally/physically different. Over years, they learned a lot about the human animal because they were able to throw their morals and compassion out the window. It was truly evil in it's purest form. The elite guards are loosely based off of the Nazis. The torturing they're doing is loosely based off of what the Nazis really did.

Down the road, the storyline will show the elite guards possesing fighting skills that will strongly appear to have come from torturing their "enemies". Wait for it.

[quote:bdda2f826f="Likes-to-scrath-himself"]You will prbably say RAFO but i was just wondering does your campaign share the same gods in addition to herbert, we heard about the goblin god malgubieyt(sp?) and he is from D&D, so do you have custom gods other then herbert or just herbert and all the core Dieties.[/quote:bdda2f826f]

The Thuntonian D&D realm contains all the PHB gods as well as some others thrown in from other settings (Forgotten Realms, etc). It's done this way, because this is the way we gamed in my old campaign for many years.

[quote:bdda2f826f="Graywolf"]Question: Why is it that I feel I've read [u:bdda2f826f]Shut Up, You're Dead[/u:bdda2f826f] before.?

Was it ever published anywhere? In Dragon, or in comic, or posted on the internet? It looks real familiar to me.

Thank you,
GW[/quote:bdda2f826f]

Shrug.

SUYD has never been published until now. However, Dork Tower has a one page comic that is depressingly similar to it (it came out [b:bdda2f826f]after[/b:bdda2f826f] SUYD was drawn, so don't give me that look). You may have read that.

[quote:bdda2f826f="PhoenixTalion"]ALl the goblins must have NPC Warrior levels, right? Do these effect their ECLs?[/quote:bdda2f826f]

The goblins were exactly as they're printed in the Monster Manual before they became adventurers (okay, the alignment could be argued). They currently have adventurer levels and that's it. No warrior levels.

Hmmm, now why is Thaco so kickass in a fight?[/size:bdda2f826f]

[quote:bdda2f826f="TinSoldier"]Have you ever seen the movie [i:bdda2f826f]Heavy Metal[/i:bdda2f826f]? Because I see some real similarities.

Not in any specific story line, but in some of the artwork.

By the way, it would be [i:bdda2f826f][b:bdda2f826f]the coolest[/b:bdda2f826f][/i:bdda2f826f] if Goblins got published in Heavy Metal magazine![/quote:bdda2f826f]

I've seen that movie a scwillion times! It's filled with Canadians, how could I not? Plus, I was reading the magazine (or at least looking at the pictures) before I knew what sex was.

I think it's safe to assume that those comics played some part in me becoming the comic author I am today.

And if anyone reading this has never seen the Heavy Metal movie, watch it with the lights turned off.

[quote:bdda2f826f="Zathyr"]Sooo...

Big Ears' ears: what's the deal? When I first saw them drawn tied-together I loved it. However, after a while they just started looking clumsier or something. Now they've been apart since he rose from the water last week and I don't know if it's just the new ear-pose or what but I think I like it more now. Is there a particular reason for the change? They didn't have to come loose, but they did. I'd think they'd be harder to draw this way. I mean, from your own sense of artistic style - do you prefer them one way or another; getting tired of drawing them tied-together, kind of a thing?

I'm just kind of curious what's going through the artist's mind here.[/quote:bdda2f826f]

Before I shaved my head, I had hair that went almost down to my waist (and before that I had a mullet. Seriously, it was 1989) which I always seemed to have in a pony tail. Whenever I'd wrestle or get tackled by someone or do anything that knocked me around, my pony tail would quickly become a head of messy hair. This is why I had Ear's ears do this. Cause it used to happen to me and my hair.

[quote:87d9c518c0="Graywolf"]Initially I heard more from Thunt, but as far as I know he got busy, or I have angered the great webcomic author, for which I will beg forgiveness if I have. If he wanted a special title for her. "Comic Colorist" or some such, I'd be glad to set it up.[/quote:87d9c518c0]

Of course I'm not angry. I don't mean to be ignoring anyone or anything, but it's been getting harder and harder to respond to everyone in this forum and through my email. I have to put more priority into finishing the comic than in answering everyone.

At the time that this forum was started, I got maybe 2 or 3 emails a week on average and I had no trouble responding to pretty much every thread that was created here. But now I often don't have the time to even read all of the threads, let alone answer all of them. And my "[i:87d9c518c0]Emails that I Need To Answer[/i:87d9c518c0]" folder is getting more and more filled up, as I'm receiving 6 to 20 emails per day that concern the comic.

Sorry GW and everyone else, I'm not trying to be a snob.

RAFO

[quote:9de8b1238a="Velead"]How did you get so awesome?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

There should be more questions like this one. I like this question.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Velead"]Is Complains's sword magic or psionic?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Definately magical.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Kish"][quote:9de8b1238a="Thunt"]

Now, when they appear onstage in the strip, how long do you think it will be, in seconds, before someone posts a defense of them in this forum?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

I guess [b:9de8b1238a]I'll[/b:9de8b1238a] have to RAFO.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Chaszmyr"]After I read the Kobolds strip in the Book 1 PDF I found myself wondering if I had seen any of your work before, either in Dragon or any other publication, because it looked really familiar to me.

Did you ever get any other pictures or strips published?

Were you influenced by a particular style of graphic art?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

I've never been published before, so it's impossible for you to have seen Kobolds anywhere else unless you've been sneaking into my house and going through my stuff. In which case... that's not my porn.

Goblins is influenced by Wormy and Elfquest as well as other stuff. Most of my work is influenced by a lifetime of reading thousands and thousands of mainstream comics as a kid and by countless hours of action cartoons and of course, 24 years of almost constant D&D.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Rashad, the guest"]Why is it that only Humans, Tuck, and "Not-Walter" have 5 fingers on each hand?

The goblins, dwarves, elves, and drow all have 4 fingers, and the "Pet Sylph" :slavegirl: of the goblin slayer only has 3.[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Humans and most demons have 5 fingers. Elves and goblins have four fingers and half elves can be born with either four or five fingers. As for the "slavegirl", RAFO.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Xeno_Mezphy"]1) About how old are the people who are (conceivably) playing the adventurer's party? RAFO

[quote:9de8b1238a="Xeno_Mezphy"]2) Are the players new, or do they just lose track of what's going on? It seems like Forgath's player actually knows quite a bit about what's going on, but about 3/5th of the party seem mostly oblivious of the rules at times. Basically, I'm asking if they're playing their first campaign, or if they are just very forgetful?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

They do seem to not be very bright at times. It's not their first time playing though.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Xeno_Mezphy"]3) Is Klik's appearance based on the creature from the Hitchhiker's Guide book covers, or is it actually a monster from the D&D universe which is conveniently similar thereto? (Far too lazy to check right now)[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Klik is my own creation. I created him for my old D&D campaign and at that time, he had no arms. I gave him arms for the comic so he could be more expressive. It wasn't until after I'd drawn him that I'd realized the similarity to Mr. Adams' critter.

[quote:9de8b1238a="PhoenixTalion"]Probably a RAFO, but what is Thaco's age category?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

RAFO

[quote:9de8b1238a="Plums"]My question though isn't exactly about Goblins, but I'm wondering about the name "Tarol." I'm not insulting you or anything (really, don't eat me or fling cards at me) but I'm really curious on if thats a common name in Canada, or maybe it's unique there, too.[/quote:9de8b1238a]

That's not an insulting question at all.

My Father's name was Thomas.
My Mother's name is Carol.

Thomas + Carol = Tarol. My Mother wanted to name me Joshua, but my Father (an artist) wanted me to end up signing my artwork with the same thing he did... "THunt".

[quote:9de8b1238a="Kaintukee_Bob"]Thunt, assuming we continue to keep him alive, is there a chance that Tempts Fate may get a compilation of his strips (and maybe a mini-comic?) in the Book II Package?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

I'm sure a collection of his strips will be appearing somewhere. As for a mini-comic, that's not impossible. I'm not sure yet though. Of course, this all depends on him surviving. I'm wondering if people will be mad at me if/when he dies.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Chaszmyr"]Does Klik sound like a Geiger Counter when he talks? It's the noise I hear in my head when I read his dialogue with Dies.[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Almost exactly! I've imagined it as a [i:9de8b1238a]slightly[/i:9de8b1238a] slower geiger counter. I'm glad other people hear that too.

[quote:9de8b1238a="TinSoldier"]Will we find out where Thac0 got his sword/cane? Maybe from some old Drizz't clone or something?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Yes we will, but not for awhile. And it's not from a Drizzt clone.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Strapper"]Just wondering, since you got so much money off of Tempts-fate, do you think after a couple more of those you will be able to make this your job and make the comic more often?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

I have no idea what'll happen in the future. One day though, one day...

[quote:9de8b1238a="Anonymous"]Are you ever going to explain how Tempts-Fate teleported from sliding down the pit to opening the chest?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

He climbed up the pit [i:9de8b1238a]Jackie Chan[/i:9de8b1238a] style. I don't have the luxury of explaining things as diligently in the Tempts Fate stuff as I do in the actual comic. More frames to show what's happening means less time spent on the comic.

[quote:9de8b1238a="guest"]is Thaco in fact a second edition character? is that why he kicks so much more ass than any of the other members of the GAP?

~Cuddles[/quote:9de8b1238a]

All characters switched over to 3rd Ed. when the books came out. He used to be 2nd, but now he follows the same rules as everyone else. So that's not why he kicks such ass.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Anonymous"]I know this will be answered with either a RAFO or a no, but will Tempts Fate ever interact with the main storyline?[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Right now, I have no plans to combine Tempts with the main characters in any way.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Believes-Anything"]I think somewhere you(Thunt) mentioned you had kids. I don't mean to attack you in any way. I'm just curious.[/quote:9de8b1238a]

My kids are allowed to see certain parts of the comic. I won't let them read the violent parts. Sometimes I edit the blood, etc out of the comic using photoshop so they can read some of the battles. Usually, they can't see it though.

They know more than anyone on Earth about spoilers and what's going to happen in the storyline because they tend to ask me and I tend to tell them everything.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Believes-Anything"]Do you have a planned ending for your comic? Please tell me that if you do, it is a long, long, long, way off.[/quote:9de8b1238a]

Every story arc is written to it's ending before it hits the internet. But there are always more stories to tell. I can't imagine ever running out of ideas as I've written what'll be happening for the next couple of years and more story ideas keep trying to leap into my head. If I could draw as quickly as I can write, we'd be into Book IV or V at least.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Lillarion"]How come Complains of Names never complained about the name "Senor Vorpal Kickasso"? I don't know if Complains would even know where to start with a name like that.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Segoi"]Ya know, I've been reading this forum for a while now, usually between picking pockets and riding my Chicken Segoi not to mention wooing the ladies, and I have to say this is a great bunch. A great bunch of what I have now idea. But I do have to ask Thunt, could you put me in your story as a theif with my riding chicken Segoi? Is it too much to ask? Keep up the great work Thunt[/quote:9de8b1238a]

I'm on to you!

Everyone, meet the player who played the original Seth Bainwraith. I should mention that his Seth was not as cowardly or nasty as the Seth in the comic. But he was guilty of Drizzt cloning in the worst way.

What he's doing here is poking fun at one of the few characters I ever played. "Sugoi" (not Segoi) was a giant eagle that my half elf/half japanese human rogue could summon as a mount. We were high level and it's a long story.[/size:9de8b1238a]

My rogue, Christian Whep, put everything he could into Charisma. I ignored the idea of putting stats where they made the most sense, and made him the sexiest womanizer who ever picked a pocket. He was cocky and arrogant. Many times he found himself leaping out of a woman's bedroom window with no cloths on to avoid an angry husband. I miss him.

[quote:9de8b1238a="Lillarion"]Are you a bit time opimistic? [/quote:9de8b1238a]

I'm afraid I am. I always think that I can finished the comic faster than I actually can. ops:

Wowee, it might get to the point where I won't be able to keep up with all the questions in this thread! That's a lot of questions!

I've also been planning on adding a FAQ to the Goblins site itself. I just need to find the time to do that.

Why did you decide to change it? And when? Or perhaps it was an accident? [/quote:c314477683]

Like all the characters who are in the comic long enough, Big Ears evolved over time. As I get more comfortable with drawing each character, he/she changes (sometimes slightly, sometimes a great deal). It's really difficult to avoid. Create a character and draw him 200 times. I think you'd find that your 200th picture would look very different than your 1st picture.

His ears are more [i:c314477683]"puppy dog" like[/i:c314477683] because I just think that looks better. I look back on the skinnier, tied up ears and I think "yuck". I like the ears that flop around almost like two giant dreadlocks.

[quote:c314477683="Anonymous"]In the current update (5/27/06), is that thorned underwear on the bearded orc's shield? And if so, will they be available soon in your Cafe Press shop? [/quote:c314477683]

I was thinking that someone might see that as a pair of underwear. But no, it's animal skin of some kind to give the shield more strength and cushion any receiving attacks a bit more. And who would want to wear thorned underwear?

And I agree with GW. Signing your posts is cool
